Bedsores
Bedsores are pressure ulcers caused by continuous contact with bedding. Bedsores, also known as decubitus, are most likely to occur wherever protruding bones and bedding place opposing pressure against skin, breaking down tissue and causing it to eventually die. Bedsores are caused, and certainly exacerbated, by immobility. When bedridden nursing home patients are not repositioned on a regular basis (usually, every two hours), they are at extreme risk for worsening bedsores.
It is also critical that bedding is kept clean and free from urine and soiling, which further stresses tissues. Nursing homes have strict practices and doctor’s orders in place to ensure proper movement to redistribute weight and keep blood supply flowing to prevent or minimize bedsores.
Bedsores are almost always a direct result of nursing home negligence. If your loved one has bedsores and nursing home abuse could be the cause, consult a nursing home abuse attorney at the Johnson Law Group. We can help you address the matter promptly and, if necessary, take legal action to ensure justice is served and the nursing home provides appropriate compensation for any harm done.
