Arson
Any fire in a nursing home setting should be viewed with suspicion and thoroughly investigated. Clearly, nursing home arson presents extreme physical danger to nursing home residents, especially considering their dependency on others for assistance. Loss of property is also a consideration, although far less important than loss of life.
Arson, by definition, is the willful or malicious burning of property—such as a building—especially with criminal or fraudulent intent. Nursing home arson, among other offenses that threaten the safety of nursing home residents, may be a sign of nursing home negligence or of willful criminal behavior.
When nursing home negligence is a factor, it is critical to also watch for signs of abuse—physical, sexual, verbal, mental/psychological—and indicators of criminal activity, including theft, false imprisonment, indecency, mistreatment, and criminal homicide or wrongful death.
Family, friends, and nursing home visitors should pay attention to any signs that would indicate problems. Be vigilant, ask your loved one questions, and follow up with nursing home staff.
If you suspect that your loved one may be a victim of nursing home arson or any other form of nursing home abuse or neglect, contact a nursing home abuse attorney as soon as possible to initiate proper actions and remedies.
